The Different Kinds of Emotional Business

One of the things I was taught early on as a complementary therapist… if you are not conscious of your issues… then those same issues will start to come back to you… through your ever open door (which you will never want to close, because how else will people get to you)… in the shape of your Customers… and those Customers/issues will bite you… and you end up dealing with your issues through your Customers… (and/or Employees… Suppliers… Trade Bodies… etc… etc…)… which takes up valuable time and energy… which you could and would be better off spending on developing your Business… your products and your services…
So if you are struggling with Anger in your life say… and you are not doing something to try and resolve your Anger… then don’t be surprised if you attract either:
a) Customers who are angry with you, your business, and your products.
b) Customers who will make you angry in some way… and anger really isn’t something on which you want to, or can, build a successful company… not over the medium to long-term… plus it is exhausting.
c) Anger will permeate all aspects of your Business… Customers… Employees… Suppliers… situations will naturally arise which create more and more Anger…
But the same is true for any of the low vibe emotions… Guilt… Apathy… Fear… etc… etc…
Customers who make you feel guilty… Customers who reflect the fact you no longer care… Customers who make you feel afraid…
The thing is… we are taught to view a Business or Career as a way of earning money… plus a way of offering our gifts and services to others… a potential vocation hopefully…
And if you consider the definition of the word Business in a standard Dictionary, it is usually something like:
- A person’s regular occupation, profession, or trade
- Commercial activity
But if you then also think… that people also have life-lessons they need to learn… personal issues which are unresolved, which they have tucked in their Unconscious Mind, hoping to avoid them… but those issues then surface, and come back at them through situations and relationships in their life.
If those issues arise from their personal relationships… through their relationships with family and friends.
Why do we somehow assume that those same issues will not also try to get at us through our Businesses… our employment… through the way we choose and try to earn money… through the way we choose to offer our gifts and services to the World?
Once again…
One of the things I was taught early on as a complementary therapist… if you are not conscious of your issues… then those same issues will start to come back to you… through your door… in the shape of your Customers… and those Customers/issues will bite you…
And over the last 30 years, I have seen the truth of this… time and time again… in my own life, and in my observation of others…
And those who are successful… and happy… over the long-term… seem to be those who continually try to fix and upgrade their Business… while also… working to continually fix and upgrade themselves…
Because they understand, that at heart, that they are their Business, and their Business is a reflection of themselves.
But we can take this thought a stage further…
Occasionally, I have come across, even worked in, Businesses which appear to be dominated by one or two issues… are literally in the grip of a certain negative or limiting emotion…
So either the owner is a very angry person… or the Business seems to attract and employ a lot of angry people…
As The Who say in their song, We Won’t Get Fooled Again… “Meet the New Boss. same as the Old Boss“.

THE SHAME BUSINESS
Shame is… basically… the belief that “I am a bad person, and so everything I do is touched by the vibration of badness…”
So a Shame Business is one where…
And it can go one of two ways…
Either…
Or…

THE GUILT BUSINESS
Once again… Guilt is… basically… the belief that “OK, I am a good person, but I do bad things…”
So a Guilt Business is one where…

THE APATHY BUSINESS
Apathy is the Level of Hopelessness… and Despair… it is the Level of Giving Up…
It is the Level of…
“I give up… I give in… I am not going to try anymore… the chips are totally stacked against me… I just can’t win… so best to simply give up…”
And… according to modern psychological research…
“Paradoxically, what makes the feeling of apathy unique is that it’s essentially the feeling of not feeling.” (Psychology Today website)
Apathy is linked to Learned Helplessness… a psychological condition… identified by the psychologist, Martin Seligman… where people have been so crushed by their life… that they just fold in on themselves…
They have experienced so much pain, that they embrace Apathy because it offers the feeling of NOT feeling… Apathy allows people to switch off the inner pain…
And so they decide to give up… as a way of coping with the inner pain and despair…
So an Apathy Business… is one which has… literally… given-up… is just going through the motions… is trading on past glories… but every attempt to rejuvenation itself… or regenerate… or re-invent itself… has failled dismally… and so the Business itself has given up…

THE GRIEF BUSINESS
No… at this point, we’re not going to focus in on Funeral Houses and Crematoriums… but consider Grief as an approach to life… and how a Business might be influenced by that.

THE FALSE PRIDE / EGO BUSINESS
With a False Pride Business… it is all about making the Business look good… even if it is at the expense of their Customers… or Suppliers… Trading Partners…

To be honest… a lot of the Internet Giants are locked into this kind of approach.
Yes, they make a lot of money… Yes, they pay lip service to Customer welfare…
But if you look carefully… at where these Companies believe the power lies… it is with them… and not with a single individual Customer… that why bother to go out of their way to satisfy the needs of their Customers…
You can see this on social media… when the Users of Internet Platforms continually request changes that would make their life easier… but are ignored… while the Giant continues to release update after update… designed to make them more profits… (even at the expense of the stability of their own platform).

THE LOVE BUSINESS
Now… let’s look at a Business which resonates with Love… conditional Love perhaps, but still Love.

However… there is a little detour we need to make at this point… to explore The Karpman Drama Business.
A Karpman Business is all to do Love too… but the Love is open-hearted… there are No Boundaries in that Business, and so the Business has no way of saying No.
So with this kind of Business, there may be a distinct inability to make money… to make the most of opportunities… because they cannot say No…
“No… sorry… you can’t have our products for 50% discount…”
“No… sorry… we don’t open over the weekend…”
“No… sorry… but we don’t permit returns after you have been using our products for 6 months plus…”
Looking after your Customers, making sure your products meet their wants and needs is good Business practice… but not at your own expense… and so if you don’t know when to draw the line between the needs of others, and your own self-needs… then some people… who really are selfish and self-centered… will take advantage of you… and so rob you of time, money, and energy.
These people are all take… take… take… and never give back in fair exchange…
What protects you are good, strong personal boundaries, and the ability to say “No, we don’t do that… sorry… but that is not part of our company policy“.
THE UNCONDITIONAL LOVE BUSINESS
And the final emotional business type we are going to discuss… the Business which resonates with Unconditional Love.

And the final emotional business type we are going to discuss… the Business which resonates with Co-dependency.
